This project was a complete re-imagining of the 125-year old iconic institution. It included both the re-thinking of the entire visitor experience as well as the design/re-design of major public venues: Ticketing/restrooms, Gift Shop, Food Service/Conference Facility, and Tram stations. The 5 new proposed animal exhibits included Polar Bear Watch, Amphibians and Reptiles, Penguins, Siberian Tigers, as well as a new Central Gathering/Orientation Space. To date only the Polar Bear Watch exhibit, which opened in 2004, has been realized.
Thomas K. Bauley was the lead Design Architect on this project while Associate/Senior Retail Design Architect with Design Collective, Inc in Baltimore.
